The illusion of safety.

I was just thinking about the idea of giving up freedom for the illusion of safety. People think that all the regulations in our post 9/11 world are now here to make us safer, but isn't this how we felt before 9/11? We were sure that nothing like that could happen to us, but then it did. And now, we are like little 16 yr old who have just had their cherry popped and the world will never look or be the same again. Giving up any amount of free is just stupid because it affords you nothing. You can never regain that sense of safety because that safety wasn't there to begin with. It was all just nativity and ignorance. We hear about dirty bombs, suitcase bombs and all this other stuff, but it was airplanes that brought down the twin towers. The sensational things that are there to give us fear are far less scary than the real things we are told not to fear. If people really want to terrorize America, and blow us up, then they will. There won't be any amount of metal detectors, bomb sniffing dogs, secret email reading tech, or special task forces that will stop it. I think the worst thing we could do is lull ourselves into thinking that we are safe, or have ever or ever will be safe. This is the world we live in, and America is the only country who can afford to blind themselves to these realities.
